THIS COPY IS MISSING THE OBI STRIP AND INSERT (I FOUND AN UPGRADE COPY WITH A MORE APPEALING COVER THAT DIDN'T HAVE THE OBI AND INSERT, SO THE OBI AND INSERT FROM THIS COPY GOT MOVED TO MINE. I CAN MAKE A XEROX OF THESE FOR THE WINNING BIDDER IF DESIRED). Yup...this is the inhumanly rare first Decayes LP from 1978 issued in an edition of a mere 100 copies (this one is number 14/100) by this group of L.A. art geek collector misfits vaguely alligned with the L.A. Free Music Society. This album is a mainstay on the wantlists of some of the world's biggest collectors of experimental music. Partly, this is due to it's inclusion on the legendary Nurse With Wound list of recommendations, but it's also due to the fact that this is just GODLY stuff. The exclamation of "Lard Free" that begins side two is no accident, as this is the Decayes album that really warrents trotting out the name of this stated influence of theirs. Shades of "I'm Around About Midnight"-era Lard Free are in here but also the Heldon of "Allez-Teia" and Ilitch circa "Periodik Mindtrouble", and all of this filtered through their snarky mischief making and art brut primitivist L.A.F.M.S-alike sensibility. Ron Kane tells me that he was not responsible for making this cover, so presumably the cover is the work of Paul Sakrison, the other half of The Decayes at this early date.
