A stunning wooden boxed set of the complete definitive recording of Wagner's Ring Cycle by Solti with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and a 3 disc "Introduction To". Each opera is in its own separate wooden ended partition with full size libretto booklets containing synopsis & full transcription for the operas. THIS is the way to do a box set! The condition of the box is very strong. As you can see from the photos, the beautiful gilt cover of the wooden box is very shiny and in great shape. The structure of the sturdy wooden box is as new. There are some very light marks and scrapes along the other sides of the box but overall it is in great and attractive shape. Unfortunately, the labelled spines of each of the individual partitions have suffered a bit in storage - they look as if perhaps they've been stored against a wall and suffered some scraping in the process (see photo 2). Although the appearance of these does not match up to the rest of the box, they remain entirely sound and, except superficially, are completely undamaged. They have more of an "antique book" appearance than intended.
As for the discs, forgive me for not playtesting every disc. If I had the stamina for 22 discs of Wagner, there's no way I'd be selling this set! I have taken two sides at random from each opera and they have all played completely without fault, with an incredibly rich, full sound. Sleeves, librettos etc are all shiny and as new but for a few age related spots on occasional pages of the librettos. Please be assured that if any part of this set does not match up to the description, I will gladly offer a full refund with no hassle.
This is an incredibly well made box, and the weight reflects that - packaged up it's about 13kg! Please note that eBay will not let me enter more than £7 for postage in this category. Real postage will be more than this, so I will invoice the winning bidder with postal options shortly after the auction has closed and we can work together to ensure you get the best possible postage deal available.
