The 'Classical Record Price Guide' lists this record as unissued - given the evidence laid before me I would have to argue with this! My best guess is that this is a record pressed for export to South Africa as the sleeve notes are in both English and Dutch. The sleeve states "The Decca Record Company Limited, London" and the English notes precede the Dutch ones.

The sleeve notes include the following statement which leads me to favouring South Africa as the intended market : "South Africans will treasure this recording so sensitively made with the skilled accompaniments ... the recording evokes the scents and sounds of a pastoral people; the vast spaces and silences of South Africa, the farms, the simple dance tunes and the cradle songs"

The artist Mimi Coertse was a colaraturo soprano of some note born in Durban who performed in Vienna, Salzburg, Covent Garden, at Glyndebourne. See her wikipedia entry :

NOTES ABOUT ITEM DESCRIPTIONS :

All vinyl is VISUALLY graded under a grading light. I simply don't have the time to listen to all the records I list all the way through. I am always happy to PLAYGRADE a record through checking for defects on request. I am happy to accept returns for a no questions asked refund. I use the Record Collector grading system - a reminder of which is at the bottom of this page.

All photographs are of the actual item for sale and are taken at the time of listing. I do not use stock images.

My top grade is NEAR MINT and I never list vinyl as being of higher quality than this.

PACKAGING :

Items are removed from their outer sleeves and wrapped in plenty of high quality bubble wrap. The item(s) are then securely packaged in a 13" square cardboard box to ensure that the item is durable and watertight. The package is clearly marked as fragile.

SHIPPING :

I try to keep shipping costs to a minimum by buying materials in bulk and avoiding flimsy and expensive record mailers. Withing the UK I ship at cost with a £0.50 charge to cover the cost of these materials.

Internationally I ship at cost + a charge of UK£0.50 for packaging materials + a 10% surcharge to cover costs incurred by Paypal.

These charges are included in the listing price. The price you see is the price you pay.

MULTIPLE ITEM DISCOUNT :

I will discount postage on multiple items on the same terms (ie postage at cost + £0.50 in the UK / +£0.50 & 10% for the rest of the world.)

A REMINDER OF THE RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM :

MINT - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc
