PLEASE NOTE OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS I WILL BE LISTING NUMEROUS CLASSICAL RECORDS THAT CAME FROM A FROM A PUBLIC AND REFERENCE LIBRARY, THEY HAVE BEEN STORED FOR MANY YEARS UNPLAYED, HOWEVER IN MOST CASES THEY WILL HAVE VARIOUS INSTITUTIONAL MARKS HANDWRITTEN REFERENCE NUMBERS STAMPS ETC. THERE ARE NUMEROUS SCARCE COLUMBIA, DECCA AND HMV EXAMPLES. PLEASE BARE IN MIND THAT THESE HAVE COME FROM A LIBRARY SO THE CONDITION WILL NOT BE FANTASTIC, ALTHOUGH SOME EXAMPLES ARE QUITE PLEASING. THESE AUCTIONS WILL HOPEFULLY GIVE PEOPLE THE OPPURTUNITY TO OBTAIN VERY SCARCE CLASSICAL RECORDS AT AFFORDABLE COMPETITIVE PRICES. THERE ARE SOME EXCELLENT EXAMPLES AND I AM SURE SOME WILL EXCEED YOUR OWN EXPECTATIONS. WITH THIS IN MIND, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THEIR EX LIBRARY STATUS WHEN BIDDING AS THESE RECORDS WILL NOT REALLY BE FOR THE COLLECTOR LOOKING FOR IMMACULATE EXAMPLES.

The record has survived in reasonable condition. There are some surface marks and minor hairlines noticed on both sides sporadically, with some sleeve removal marks. There is one hairline that is lightly feelable 2cm in length at the very beginning of side one, with a just feelable hairline 1cm at the very end of side one, there is a small feelable mark in between band 3 and 4 Side 2 (which barely sounds if at all approx 2mm feelable of a longer non feelable hairline) . Other than these two feelable marks I could not really find any other issues like this. A visual grading somewhere between VG+/EX- should be fair enough. Label with tape to Side One.

I have listened to the record in its entirety numerous times so as to give a fair and accurate audio grading. And what I have noticed is that there is some light to moderate underlying static, surface noise/crackle that seems to be noticed in places. What is quite useful is that because this is an Orchestral piece it is very busy recording so surface issues are generally masked quite well, any surface noise or crackle only really became apparent during run ins outs and during quieter non Orchestra parts that were quite few and far between. The two feelable marks noted played through reasonably well, the one at the beginning of Side 1 lasts for approx 2 minutes 30 seconds, during this time there was a soft to mid tick on each revolution and at time non at all masked by the busier Orchestral passages. The small mark at the end of Side 1 again lasted 1 minute 30 seconds and was again much of the same, soft to mid ticks but not overly distracting but apparent. The other mentioned feelable mark is a non issue really as it is tiny and I couldn't really pick up any noise from it.
There were some occasional pops and ticks in places and occasional light noises but generally the play back was Excellent for the most part and was perfectly enjoyable. Audio Grading Excellent.

This is one of the scarcer SXL recordings but as noted above it has its flaws, so please bare this in mind when bidding. This is not really a copy for the collecting purist who requires Near Mint copies. This falls below this as stated in the condition report. This copy however is ideal for someone who wants this iconic recording, no doubt at a much lower price than immaculate copies.

Due to this record being stored and largely unused for many years I would recommend a professional clean to enhance this example further.

Sleeve VG+ (Very Good Plus)

A decent sleeve, this is one of the early thin gauge SXL sleeves that very rarely survive well. This example is not the greatest but is solid and well presented. The front is clean and complete, there is some edge creasing and ring wear showing with some wear along the edges and corners, scuff sand corner rounding. There is a small tape mark top right corner with some sticker residue top left corner. The lower edge has a small split repair where some of the flip back has been removed. The back is again reasonably well preserved, clean with some minor toning, with some light handling marks and light staining showing. There is some tape repairs on two corners, with a taped number top left corner, with various numbers written in the top right corner. There is some light ring wear with some surface loss along the lower flip back edge towards the middle area. A solid sleeve reasonably well presented throughout.
