DEENA WEBSTER - TUESDAY'S CHILD

A truly excellent condition and highly presentable copy of this rare and sought after 1968 UK 1st press overlooked folk gem on the iconic yellow/Black/silver Parlophone label, MONO, PMC 7052

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   XEX 683 - 1 with stampers "1" and "G" at 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively

Side 2   XEX 684 - 1 with stampers "1" and "G" at 9.30 o'clock and 3.30 o'clock respectively

The condition of the vinyl is a solid excellent (EX). Flat and nicely weighty, each side of the vinyl is glossy and has retained a beautiful jet black sheen. In normal daylight each side of the vinyl comes across as perfect, and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that just a few extremely wispy hairlines and equally light paper scuff marks come into view - remarkable, especially considering that this vinyl is now a 54 year old antiquity. Clearly this record has been sparingly played, and I am sure that many would grade as "excellent plus".

The labels are excellent plus (EX+). Just a couple of extremely faint and small spindle trails on the side 1 label adjacent to the centre hole, otherwise perfect with the silver text upon the matt black background and, of course, the iconic yellow "PARLOPHONE" text on each label all remaining in pristine condition. Note the "J", "K", and "T" pronounced tax codes on the side 1 label - specific to UK 1st pressings.

The condition of the front-laminated flipback Ernest J. Day outer sleeve is excellent (EX). Such an iconic 60's sleeve with that haunting Steve Bobroff front side photo of Deena, and so rare to come across 1st pressings in such beautiful and impressive condition as this. Each edge remains firm with no scuffing whatsoever (a rarity in itself) and that includes the spine with all text perfectly legible. The corners are each near perfectly defined right angles with just a little scuffing on the bottom right corner and the opening edges remain firm with no fraying. The reverse side is in great shape also with each flipback near perfect and barely any age discolouration at all. There is just the hint of some very mild ring wear towards the opening edge and on the front side there is a 5cm minor laminate lift line towards the top edge with a 3cm score line underneath it (minor also), and a few 1-2 cm very light laminate "crinkle" lines on the bottom edge towards the bottom right corner. All colours, art work, photos, and text remain truly excellent. Beautiful to behold!

The audio quality is again truly excellent (EX), at least. Great tone and clarity throughout with no distortion even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No sticks, jumps, repeats, or interference and any background crackle is at an absolute minimum and no more than you would expect than when this record was first played back in the 1960's. You may come across the very occasional light background click which I can only put down to the odd speck of dust caught in the grooves through decades of storage, but there is nothing intrusive here and each and every track remains a great listen.

Comes complete with original and near perfect condition EMI advertising inner sleeve with no seam splits, tears, edge fraying, creasing or age discolouration - again, remarkable!. Note that I always insert the vinyl into a separate new poly-lined plain white inner sleeve for shipping purposes and in order to protect the original.

A brilliant addition to any serious vinyl collection - classic 60's through and through and extremely rare in condition as impressive as this...will only continue to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard mailer, along with extra protective flange edges, with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
