DEEP PURPLE - " DEEP PURPLE ", Harvest (SHVL 759) Stereo, 1969.

Extremely rare, UK first pressing of the classic LP by Deep Purple.

Like so many of these late 60s/early 70s Harvest original pressings, there's just something about the way they sound. From the recording, to the mastering and the vinyl pressing - the music seems to leap from the grooves full of energy, clarity and punch. There's a reason these early pressings are revered so much - way better than any subsequent issues on any format IMO.

Original laminated gatefold sleeve design, Harvest label with no EMI logo on it and the matrix numbers ending in A-1 and B-1 mark this particular record out as thevery first ever pressing. Interestingly, most of the top selling price copies if this record claiming to be first pressings are stating matrix numbers of A-1/B-2 - whilst this predominantly points to the level of assumed knowledge and optimistic presumption amongst ebay sellers, these real first pressings with the correct A-1/B-1 matrix endings must be very rare indeed!

Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and put in a new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner has been retained for originality- see photo)


CONDITION:

VINYL  =  EX- (No proper/deep scratches, groove damage, excessive surface noise, distortion, etc. Clean labels with only lightish spindle trails. Under a bright grading lamp there a few very faint paper scuffs and a few extremely faint hairline marks and superficial blemishes - as you would expect, these do not sound on playback. Plays very well indeed - strong, clear and without interruption from excessive clicks, loud surface noise, etc... There's a minute amount of surface noise in the pressing during the silent run-in and in a couple of silences/quiet sections, but once the music starts, it disappears and plays strong, vibrant and clear. It's clearly only had pretty light use in it's lifetime and has been well cared for. Not in museum piece territory, but still a great example or a rare original '69 LP, ready play and enjoy as originally intended. Much much better than any inferior quality later pressing or a sterile CD reissue IMO.

Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)



SLEEVE =  EX- (No heavy creases, no defacing, or heavy ring wear, etc . Just marked down a fraction for some light normal wear to the edges and corners, a few very small creases in the laminate along the spine and other very light signs of normal previous use - see photos for further clarification)
