DEEP PURPLE – MACHINE HEAD – SHLP 635 – very rare early Iranian LP on HIT Records
Now a very rare Iranian album as it was issued during the former Shah’s reign – signified by one label containing the previous Iranian national emblem of the crown above a lion and sun (see photo). 3-months after the 1979 Iranian Revolution, the playing of western music was considered degenerate, the new regime banned it, and vinyl records were ordered be destroyed. This LP is one of the few to exist still! Deep Purple’s “Machine Head”, an undated stereo recording made in Iran by Hit Records has catalogue no. SHLP 635. Track listing: (Side 1) Highway Star, Maybe I’m a Leo, Pictures of Home, Never Before. (Side 2) Smoke On The Water, Lazy, Space Truckin’.
Disc is clean and shiny with occasional very light marks. Side 1 has only 1 tick. Side 2 has about 20/25 random light ticks across Tracks 1 & 2 only. No background noise and overall a great recording. Thin card sleeve has small splits at top and bottom right-hand corners; surface is scuffed and edges/corners worn and creased.
