UK EMI/PURPLE RECORDS (TPSA 7504) FIRST PRESSING (April 1972) OF DEEP PURPLE'S ICONIC "Machine Head" LP WHICH DELIVERS PRETTY MUCH FLAWLESS SOUND ON MY SYSTEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME! (see detailed audio assessment below) - GREAT COPY

FIRST PRESS MATRIX: TSPA 7504 A-1U / TSPA 7504 B-1U

A SUPERB *COMPLETE* FIRST PRESS COPY OF AN ABSOLUTELY TREMENDOUS AND ESSENTIAL LP WHICH PLAYS BEAUTIFULLY THROUGHOUT AND WITH THE ADDITION OF THE ORIGINAL 1972 SONGBOOK - VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Led Zeppelin's fourth album, Black Sabbath's Paranoid, and Deep Purple's Machine Head have stood the test of time as the Holy Trinity of English hard rock and heavy metal, serving as the fundamental blueprints followed by virtually every heavy rock & roll band since the early '70s. And, though it is probably the least celebrated of the three, Machine Head contains the "mother of all guitar riffs" -- and one of the first learned by every beginning guitarist -- in "Smoke on the Water."
Inspired by real-life events in Montreux, Switzerland, where Deep Purple were recording the album when the Grand Hotel was burned to the ground during a Frank Zappa concert, neither the song, nor its timeless riff, should need any further description. However, Machine Head was anything but a one-trick pony, introducing the bona fide classic opener "Highway Star," which epitomised all of Deep Purple's intensity and versatility while featuring perhaps the greatest soloing duel ever between guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and organist Jon Lord. Also in top form was singer Ian Gillan, who crooned and exploded with amazing power and range throughout to establish himself once and for all as one of the finest voices of his generation, bar none.
Yes, the plodding shuffle of "Maybe I'm a Leo" shows some signs of age, but the punchy "Pictures of Home" and "Never Before" remain as vital as ever, displaying Purple at their melodic best. And finally, the spectacular "Space Truckin'" drove Machine Head home with yet another tremendous Blackmore riff, providing a fitting conclusion to one of the essential hard rock albums of all time.
Track Listing:
Side 1: HIGHWAY STAR / MAYBE I'M A LEO / PICTURES OF HOME / NEVER BEFORE
Side 2: SMOKE ON THE WATER / LAZY / SPACE TRUCKIN'
LABELS: The labels are clean and bright with no unwanted marks/writing and only moderate spindles (randomly spaced and probably a couple of dozen) only really evident when angled to the light
VINYL Visual: The vinyl still retains its original deep, like new, glossy sheen and is practically unmarked (there are a couple of mega light and superficial blemishes but these have absolutely no audio consequence)
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio quality throughout. This LP is beautifully recorded with an incredibly strong and vibrant sound - full of restless energy and excitement and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and how this LP really needs to be heard) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no clicks/pops and no surface noise. The sound quality is really sensational and the LP plays to the highest standard with all frequencies bright and clear and there is no groove-wear or distortion. Critically graded a strong NEAR MINT for audio (if not better, as there's nothing to fault the delivery but as it has been played more than a few times I will stick with Near Mint) - this is a really fantastic copy
SLEEVE: The outer laminated gatefold sleeve is in EXCELLENT + condition. The outer surfaces have a beautiful deep, glass-like glossy sheen with hardly any rubbing and just two light half moon creases towards the opening edge and the unlaminated inside is pristine - clean and unmarked. All the edges are sharp with no wear to speak of and the spine is straight and true with all text clear and bold - very fine example
LYRIC INSERT: The fold out lyric insert (printed on one side only) is also in superb condition. It's clean and bright with no rips or tear to the folds and apart from the original owner adding a line to the lyrics of Pictures Of Home - "When Will I Ever Learn" the lyric sheet is unmarked - EXCELLENT
SONGBOOK: The 24 page song-book which contains a three page piece 'Making Of Machine Head" written by Roger Glover as well as the music and lyrics to 10 songs (the 7 on Machine Head, the one which should have been on Machine Head and 2 singles). I would grade this as VERY GOOD+ All the pages are intact, undamaged and unmarked apart from a little staining on the bottom corner of of the first couple of pages. The cover has some light creases and rubbing to the spine but it is still good and solid and a very nice item (please see photos)
