AN INCREDIBLY ATMOSPHERIC LIVE ALBUM WITH A CRYSTAL CLEAR AND POWERFUL CUT DELIVERING SENSATIONAL AUDIO
THIS IS THE UK FIRST ISSUE CONTRACT PRESSING WITH GROOVED LABELS WHICH IS SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS A DECCA CONTRACT PRESSING (a mistake I may have instigated back in 2009 in one of my listings and one which, once it appeared on Popsike, people seem to have run with ever since) BUT AS THE DECCA LABELS NO LONGER CARRIED THEIR CHARACTERISTIC 'GROOVE' BY 1972 (it ended in 1969/70) THE ACTUAL PRESSING PLANT ORIGIN IS UNKNOWN
PRESSED ON TWO MID/HEAVYWEIGHT RECORDS

Recorded over three nights in August 1972, Deep Purple's Made in Japan was the record that brought the band to headliner status in the U.S. and elsewhere, and it remains a landmark in the history of heavy metal music.
Since reorganising with singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover in 1969, Deep Purple had recorded three important albums — Deep Purple in Rock, Fireball, and Machine Head — and used the material to build a fierce live show.
Made in Japan, its selections drawn from those albums, documented that show, in which songs were drawn out to ten and even nearly 20 minutes with no less intensity, as guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and organist Jon Lord soloed extensively and Gillan sang in a screech that became the envy of all metal bands to follow.
The signature song, of course, was "Smoke on the Water," with its memorable riff, but those extended workouts, particularly the moody "Child in Time," with Gillan's haunting falsetto wail and Blackmore's amazingly fast playing, and "Space Truckin'," with Lord's organ effects, maintained the onslaught, making this a definitive treatment of the band's catalogue and its most impressive album.

Side 3: STRANGE KIND OF WOMAN (Osaka - 16th August 1972) / LAZY (Tokyo - 17th August 1972)

LABELS: NEAR MINT
Clean, bright and unmarked labels (with none of the common foxing) and only two or three extremely light spindle traces evident - this copy has clearly received little play
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
All four vinyl surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen and shine like-new.
Even under bright light there is barely a mark to be seen - wispy light hairiness only, of no audio consequence
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
Outstanding audio quality and sound performance throughout - incredibly strong and vibrant.
In keeping with its barley played status it plays beautifully and my play-check at loud volume revealed no major audio issues whatsoever - no scratches, no loud clicks or pops, no groove-wear or distortion and hardly any surface noise - just a touch on the quiet intro to "Lazy" otherwise, the run-ins and all other quieter sections are exceptionally clean - sounds wonderful.
Best copy I've heard in a long while - great stuff
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
A lovely example of this easily worn and ring-marked cover.
The outer laminated surfaces have a deep, deep glossy sheen with no rubbing (just a little record impression) and the inside is like-new.
All edges are crisp and square and all spine text is clear and bold.
The only minor detracting features of note are a couple of light creases to the spine, a tiny touch of rubbing on the bottom edge/opening corner and two small 'stains' front bottom right, but these appear to be beneath the laminate and are most likely from manufacture
ALL RECORDS ARE PACKAGED WITH THE VINYL OUTSIDE OF THE SLEEVE TO PREVENT ANY 'KNIFING' DURING TRANSIT
A PROTECTIVE POLY SLEEVE, NEW INNER SLEEVES WITH NEW ANTI-STATIC LINERS, QUALITY BOX (NOT ENVELOPE) MAILER AND AMPLE STIFFENERS ARE ALWAYS USED TO ENSURE THAT YOUR RECORD ARRIVES SAFELY
