THE ALBUM that effectively finished off the classic Mrk III version of Purple bringing Blackmore into conflict over the musical direction and spurring him on to form Rainbow. Criticised at the time for sounding far too funky, time and distance has in cat been kind to the contents. Displaying a brilliant fusion of rock and soul the tracks are wonderfully expressive and display both Coverdale and Hughes in brilliant light, the two sparring on some of the bands most soulful material. Tracks like 'Stormbinger' and 'Lady Double Dealer' and 'High Ball Shooter' however, are about as hard rock as they've always been - indeed, those particular tracks could've easily been recorded for the triumphant 'Burn' album.
Elsewhere the standard is equally high with a nice melange of firm but funky hard rock, even Blackmore seems to be inspired on a number of tracks firing off a number of excellent trademark solo's. Best track? In my book that might have to be 'Soldier Of Fortune', the natural successor to 'Mistreated' giving Coverdale the opportunity to impress and claim ownership of one of the greatest brands in hard rock.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Nice clean and shiny condition. Virtually no signs of use. One or two lone spindle marks on labels. Grades as top MINT-!
