DEEP PURPLE - " THE BOOK OF TALIESYN ", Harvest (SHVL 751) Stereo, 1968.

Extremely rare, UK first pressing of the classic LP by Deep Purple.

Like so many of these late 60s/early 70s Harvest original pressings, there's just something about the way they sound. From the recording, to the mastering and the vinyl pressing - the music seems to leap from the grooves full of energy, clarity and punch. There's a reason these early pressings are revered so much - way better than any subsequent issues on any format IMO.

Original laminated gatefold sleeve design, Harvest label with no EMI logo on it and the matrix numbers ending in A-1 and B-1 mark this particular record out as the very first ever pressing.

Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and put in a new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner has been retained for originality- see photo)


CONDITION:

VINYL  =  V.G.++ (No huge scratches, groove damage, excessive surface noise, distortion, etc. Clean labels with only lightish spindle trails. Under a bright grading lamp there a few very faint paper scuffs, a couple of extremely faint hairline/superficial blemishes marks and one more pronounced mark across most of track 2 on side one, which I can just feel with my finger - as you would expect, the paper scuffs and hairline surface marks do not sound on playback. More surprisingly, the one other scratch I can feel by hand does not sound on my turntable either - that said, I could well believe that on some other turntables it would sound as a faint click. Bearing in mind that this mark covers nearly the whole track, I would definitely consider this and assume the worst case scenario when placing max bids. Otherwise, it plays very well - strong and clear sound thats's definitely not suffering from the dullness or distortion caused by overplaying. There's a minute amount of surface noise and the odd occasional faint crackle in the pressing during the silent run-in and in a couple of silences/quiet sections. It's clearly only had pretty light use in it's lifetime and has been well cared for. Certainly not in museum piece territory, but still a good example or a rare original 60s LP, ready play and enjoy as originally intended. Much much better than any inferior quality later pressing or a sterile CD reissue IMO.

Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)



SLEEVE =  EX- (No heavy creases, no defacing, or heavy ring wear, etc . Just marked down a fraction for some light normal wear to the edges and corners, a few very small creases in the laminate along the spine and other slight thumb creases, plus other very light signs of normal previous use - see photos for further clarification)
