This ultra rare artist's acetate test pressing is for the RnB/Hip Hop act DEF CON 4 who recorded one album for Reprise/Warner Brothers. It is the original acetate (not a repro) from August 1989 (note: cover sleeve indicates 8/3/89, but label indicates 8/4/89) and in handwriting on front cover lists 'Benny's copy' -Benny Medina was Executive Producer of the record.(presumably A&R VP Benny Medina-who now manages Jennifer Lopez).
WHAT IS AN ACETATE:
Acetates are advance pressings made via mastering facilities (like the famous BERNIE GRUNDMAN MASTERING who pressed this gorgeous item!) pressed individually (one at a time) on thick heavy acetate vinyl-to audition sound and production quality of recordings BEFORE sending to production for manufacturing. Traditionally, only the artist, producer and management get acetates (they are not cheap to produce as you can imagine). They are also not intended for repeated play, and it is recommended that if you are the winning bidder, if you absolutely must play this item, make a digital copy for yourself and put the acetate away for safe keeping. Acetate pressings can and will erode over time from repeated plays.
