THE POETS
"Widely regarded as Scotland's premier 60's band, the Poets of 1967 bore no resemblance to the foppish quintet
that briefly graced the Top 50 in 1964 with the classic " Now We're Through " . In fact. the 1967 Poets fielded no members
that had played on the debut single and now comprised Fraser Watson, Norrie MacLean, Ian MacMillan, Jim Breakey, and
Andi Mulvey. ( Contrary to the entry in Tapestry Of Delights, Jim Breakey had in fact been in the group since late 1965,
rather than being a new member. )
The new five-piece Poets re-signed to Decca in 1967, after a stint with Immediate, and put out an immeccable double-sider,
" WOODEN SPOON " / " IN YOUR TOWER " .
" WOODEN SPOON " is superb, a vigorous slice of powerful freakbeat, while the flip unveils a newer PSYCHEDELIC POETS,
with its slightly brisker but undoubtedly Lennon-influenced trippy vocal and pronounced Eastern flavour. Decca's renewed faith
in the group, however, rewarded them with precious few sales and it was the only Poets single from this era.
The band disintegated, leaving only Ian McMillan to continue with the name. Watson joined the Pathfinders, who evolved
into Apple's White Trash, while Jim Breakey went on to Studio Six ( of which more later ). A bunch of Poets recorded the
" Heyla Hola " single for Strike Cola in 1971, though it was really only the Poets in name, rather than a continuation
of the band proper ".

AND THE B SIDE IS ONE OF THE TOP PSYCHEDELIC SINGLES - INFLUENCED BY THE GREAT JOHN LENNON
BACK TO THE RECORD.

IT IS AN ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING WITH THE CURVED " DECCA " ON THE LABELS
RELEASE DATE 17-2-67 ( WRITTEN ON THE A SIDE LABEL )
THE RECORD DOES HAVE SOME LIGHT MARKS
AND FOR THIS REASON I HAVE TO GRADE IT VERY GOOD or VG ( SAME THING)
THE LETTERS D.T.T ARE WRITTEN IN BOTH LABELS
THE RECORD PLAYS VERY GOOD - ( I HAVE JUST PLAYED IT )
IT COMES IN A RED DECCA SLEEVE - THIS IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION
ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO ASK.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDING RECORDS I HAVE EVER OWNED
