Totally undocumented (and fantastic!) private Australian folk LP from inner city Melbourne in 1969. There's virtually zero information on this recording online, except on Warren Faheys Australian folk site, in which the band is briefly mentioned, discussing the career of member Gordon McIntyre, who was a Scottish born musician who emigrated to Australia and recorded this one LP in Melbourne before moving to Sydney and establishing himself in the local folk scene of the 70s/80s. Apparently he was a contemporary of Bert Jansch in the UK. The group also features, Peter Howell (who later played with many local folk groups as well as with Bert Jansch), Andrea Calder and George Black.
I've had this LP for a number of years now, in which during the period I've never seen or heard of another copy except for a mention on the UK record collectors forum Very Good plus. I've even asked many of the well known local dealers and collectors in which nobody has ever heard of it. Recently I was lucky enough to find another copy. Both copies were found in the Collingwood area where the LP was recorded and presumably personally distributed by the band at gigs. Judging by the catalogue number it was the first (and possibly only) release on the obscure 'Theme Sound Recording' label. I cant' imagine many of these exist.
As for the music, it is quality British 60s style progressive/revivalist folk in a style very similar to Bert Jansch/Pentangle (without the jazz elements). Male and female vocals, Guitars, bass and Dulcimers. Featuring superb, haunting arrangements of trad tunes such as Nortaman Town, Jack Orion etc...as well as several covers (two Tom Paxton). I would say this is the best Australian folk LP I've heard in this revivalist style. (For me its better than the Trevor Lucas LPs)
Overall, a phenomenal artefact of recorded folk music in Australia and an extremely rare and quality LP unlikely to surface anytime again soon.
Vinyl. VG/VG+ (The disc has faint hairline scuffs that occasionally cause crackle although no deep scratches that deter enjoyment of the music. Plays nearly VG+. Very acceptable for such as rare LP. I can't foresee any better copy surfacing any time soon.)
Cover. VG+ (Very presentable. The front is in great condition due to lamination. Some staining on the reverse, a previous owners name written in small handwriting. Slight corner bend at lower left. Some cracking to the spine presumably due to years of flat storage. Label is fine except for spindle marks.)
