Description
This auction is for a rather rare Deutsche Grammophon tulip label box set of Henryk Szeryng playing Johann Sebastian Bach's 6 Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin BWV 1001-1006.
The Grand Prix du Disque set comprises 3 records (139 270 - 139 272). I do not profess expertise in grading the condition of the vinyl, but I have examined each side very closely under direct light and do not see any marks whatsoever, with one exception. On the first band of side two (BWV 1002, allemande) are two small parallel scratches, like a number 11 on its side. I have played through this band twice - there is some ticking but the needle does not stick or skip. Szeryng's breath-taking performance is uninterrupted.
The 12 page booklet included with the set is in very good condition, a few marks on the back cover. The box is also in very good condition, completely intact, with some fading of the word "Violinsonaten" on the spine.
