Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Musicians: Dick Fariña & Eric von Schmidt play various traditional instruments that include: mountain dulcimer, three mouth harps, two Spanish guitars, fiddle, mandolin, kazoo with vocals. Blind Boy Grunt (aka BOB DYLAN) plays harmonica and backing vocals.

Brief Info: An obscure piece featuring two American traditional folk artists. But arguably more famed for featuring a young Bob Dylan on harmonica and backing vocals under the pseudonym of Blind Boy Grunt. Recorded in 1963 in London where the pair met Dylan, he and Eric von Schmidt became friends and an influence on his future music. Dylan paid tribute to Schimdt on the cover of his famed ‘Bringing it all Back Home’ album were he posed next to a pile of albums, ‘The Folk Blues of Eric von Schmidt’ was on top of the heap. This is a very good and interesting piece in its own right, but is sort-after by Dylan completists and fans. Not one seen often, and given the age, rarely in better conditions. A record pressed in small and limited numbers, this is a very impressive example appearing little used with two superbly clean playing surfaces and clean sound. It will certainly not prove easy to find much better.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: or very close to. A single fully laminated format. Printed and made in England by West Brothers Printers Ltd, includes a plain white polylined inner sleeve.

Lamination – Front & Back: This is really only marked down from an excellent plus grading for a moderate laminated crease near the bottom left corner but few others, any of which are fine and faint. Overall, the laminate retains excellent shine, freshness and clarity with any dulling around the rim area gentle as seen under light. Only small traces of lifting on the front spine edge mostly near the top left corner edge. Light grubbiness is seen on the front right exposed edge where the laminate ends. The back is superb with little to fault at all. Given the age of this cover with a heavyweight record inside for decades, this cover has fared well.

Top Edge: Thin, but straight with full smooth laminate retained.

Bottom Edge: As above but slightly less straight.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Still impressively sharp with hardly any thickening. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.

Spine and Text: Again thin, but solid, straight with light compression towards the top, the ends are pinched in manufacture. All text is perfect and unworn, centred a little high. One very small stain beneath the laminate to the left of the main text near the top the only small blemish.

Corners: Minimal tip rubbing at all with very fine to excellent shape retained with no knocks.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example of this seldom-seen 1960’s obscurity, one that will prove difficult to find much better. This still attractive item should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(–): a polylined white inner that has moderately aged with the usual discolouration of the paper. It has two corner creases, often deliberate to stop the record sliding out, but both window circles are perfect and the lining quite clear and intact. No edge splits or repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+): arguably better. A very fine visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and heavily pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface marks few, very light and faint as seen critically under bright light. A couple of very fine hairlines that do nothing, no penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, barely anything even registers. Visually a super record that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This vintage folk curio featuring Bob Dylan plays even above it’s high visual grading with little to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed – with acoustic instrumentation and quieter songs, the odd sporadic tick and contact trace is nigh-on impossible to avoid on a record of such age. Overall a top-quality pressing with no tracking issues*. Few available copies will outperform this significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp being played on a stereo system. I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing of any real note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this somewhat ‘lost’ record. It could prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
