DICKY OLIVER Lp (production by GIACOMO TOSTI). Original Italian pressing on RCA ITALIANA label (PSL 1051), from 1969. Holy grail, promo-only Italian-only Lp from this mysterious, ex-pat US Army (?) drummer living in Italy. His only recording and what a session... Obviously influenced by the funkiest James Brown sound with a brutal drumming technique similar to the raw, late '60s, breaks and beats of Bernard Purdie and Idris Muhammad. Lots of hard boogaloo funk / gritty R&B and psychedelic Prestige / Blue Note label style hammond jazz, but delivered with punishing force. For us, still one of the rarest euro funk items of them all. You'll see more copies of the Bobby Boyd Congress Lp for sale from dealers but never the Dicky Oliver. Super-obscure cover versions of James Brown tunes like THE CHICKEN (comped on Easy Tempo Vol 5 - A Slammin' Cinematic Experience) / LET YOURSELF GO / PAPA'S GOT A BRAND NEW BAG and confusingly, an original composition called the FUNKY DRUMMER featuring explosive b-boy drum breaks. Superb, downtempo groove on HIGH AND LOW with jazzy flute solos and slow mo' Miles Davis 'So What' style riddim. The whole Lp is superb. No musicians are credited but he used a fantastically hard and heavy horn section for this recording too. Still an unknown item to many funk collectors worldwide so check the long soundclip. Booming production sound with huge bottom end. Our soundclip opens with the infamous drum break sample from FUNKY DRUMMER followed by the full theme and several  other tunes in their entirety. Great for DJs. Very rare Lp!!! Vinyl is in shiny, VG++ condition overall with some sections of hairlines. Booming production sound. Light surface noises. The amazing psychedelic soul brother / afro funk inspired artwork sleeve is in VG++ condition overall with light general wear. Ring crease lines front top right area / ring wear dirt marks / age spots / thin curved score line to front middle left area. A touch of wear to middle spine. Some corner / edge wear. Very rare Lp!!!
