Description

I recently bought the record collection of an ex-employee of Citadel Records (both the distribution company and the label itself), and the person had TEST PRESSINGS of many of the releases they'd been involved in. As the person who ordered the test pressings in the first place, they had a great idea of quantities pressed (we love that!).

Here below then, is one of them:

ARTIST:    DIED PRETTY   -
TITLE:      "TIME"

FORMAT:     …vinyl 7" single TEST PRESSING…
LABEL:         (was on their own un-named label) .
CAT. #:          (DP-001-2)   .
DATE:         1991 .
PRESSED IN:    AUSTRALIA .

Comes in its original plain light blue die-cut sleeve. Record has plain white labels with only the band name and catalogue number handwritten on 'A' side. Other side label in blank.

The story about this: in December 1990, Died Pretty (with help from Citadel) decided to press up a very limited 7", strictly as give-away at one gig in Sydney, in late January '91, comprising two unreleased studio recordings: "Time" and "March Past". Test pressings were made (marked as DP-001) and there was a fault with the song "Time", so they asked for another cut of that song. Four more test pressings were made of just that one song - the pressing plant, Festival Records, chose to use four copies of an already cancelled/discarded one-sided single of the Stray Cats tune "Struck By Lightning", to press this second cut of "Time" on the other side of that. A lady by the name of Oriel, who worked for many years as a specialist test-pressing check-er at Festival (I dealt with her a lot regarding test pressings for my own label), then put some scratch marks across the Stray Cats side so there'd be no confusion as to which side to play. It was her who wrote the info on one side of the label. This cut of "Time" was OK'd, and this is the one that was eventually used. (The single was also given away at a May 1991 Melbourne gig as well, with a slightly altered pic cover.)

The Stray Cats tune plays, but the cut marks cause pronounced clicking and several skips. "Struck By Lightning" was only released in Australia as a 7", but this could be counted as a pretty unusual and unique Stray Cats item, despite its condition.

If you have any concerns about the accuracy of my gradings, please check my feedback for the odd nice comment from some satisfied folk out there.... (and hopefully you may be able to join their ranks).
