This 1957 LP features the great singer Dinah Washington on a variety of her Blues hits dating back to 1943. The blues-oriented material includes "Evil Gal Blues," "Trouble in Mind," "TV Is the Thing This Year," and "New Blowtop Blues," and was taken from five different sessions spanning a decade. This accessible effort serves as a fine introduction to the spirited early style of Washington.

Dinah Washington, who – 55 years after her death - remains the uncrowned queen of Blues (capital "B"), used to protest this unofficial title, claiming (lamely) that she sang jazz, blues, crossover pop and ballads with equal proficiency. Namely, as many music stars who grew up and were raised in the dust bowl poverty of the Great Depression, she was extremely sensitive to maintaining her crossover and pop diva status which she acquired in the mid-to-late 1950's. Alas, the Blues refused to walk away, as this 1957 LP ample demonstrates. This album comprises of her early (late 1940's to mid-1950's UNSURPASSED Blues and Rhythm numbers, many of which are simply a monument not only to Dinah's vocal artistry, but to the genre itself!) And, what a blues it is. From her majestic voice the blooz simply ooz. There are absolutely NO overproduced, syrupy numbers which she became famous for in the final two years of her career. This is a lean, mean - and, as some titles suggest - raunchy, rowdy, sexually suggestive Rhythm & Blues. (a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions  ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters)

-        Cover has some fraying/wear along the lower seam

-        Visible shelf wear noted on the top seam and spine.

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.  (VISIBLE ON FRONT SIDE ONLY)

-        Front cover has a few tiny (BARELY VISIBLE) spot-like peel-off marks along the bottom seam (less than 1/8 square inch in size)

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-        Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-        Cover shows some yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-        Cover has a few small tears/dents on the spine  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)  (NO PART OF THE COVER IS MISSING)

-        Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged
