Dinah Washington, who – almost 55 years after her death - remains the uncrowned queen of Blues (capital "B"), used to protest this unofficial title, claiming (lamely) that she sang jazz, blues, crossover pop and ballads with equal proficiency. Namely, as many Jazz singers who grew up and were raised in the dust bowl poverty of the Great Depression, she was extremely sensitive to maintaining her crossover and pop diva status which she acquired in the mid-to-late 1950s. Alas, the Blues refused to walk away. Four years before she passed away from the terminal case of Weight-Loss Blues (geez, we can certainly relate to her plight…) she recorded this, the greatest and by far the most popular of all her works. Technically, this was supposed to be album of standards, covers and popular ballads of the day, and in many ways it was. But the blues permeates this album in the same manner good vibes and humor  permeate every Louis Armstrong recording and class and style permeate every note ever played by Duke Ellington. The Blues was such an integral element of Dinah's voice that there was simply no escaping it. The blues simply ooze from her majestic voice. While some numbers are somewhat overproduced, her voice itself is such a wonderful instrument that all other considerations simply become irrelevant. And there is this majestic, Clyde Otis production, which is my personal candidate for the best HI-FI recording of all time. Even though this is a crossover material, the sheer expressiveness of her voice, the incredible melismas, the emotionally drenching quality of her singing…this is one cascade after another of that immortal voice that will melt your heart within seconds. A great, great jazz vocals album, the kind of they do not (and cannot) make anymore. Track Listing: I Remember You - I Thought About You - That's All There Is To That - I Won't Cry Anymore - I'm Thru With Love - Cry Me A River - What A Difference A Day Makes - Nothing In The World (Can Make Me Love You More Than I Do) -Manhattan - Time After Time - It's Magic - A Sunday Kind Of Love . This may be your last chance to have Dinah Washington materialize in your living room, and sing only for you (and your significant other). An album which is truly a monument of American vocal artistry and a piece of history in itself. Easily one of the top-10 torch ballads albums, right up there with Little Jimmy Scott’s ‘Falling in love is wonderful’, Billie Holiday’s ‘Lady in Satin’, Ray Charles’ ‘Genius of Ray Charles’ or Helen Merrill’s ‘Helen Merrill with strings’ and others.

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1  (front side) and 2 (back side).

-        Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-        Cover has a small quality control (inspection) stamp on the back panel

-        Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.  (BARELY VISIBLE)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
