Way back in the late 1960s, I was working for a record store in Columbus, Ohio that was owned by a large corporation - a conglomerate.  In those days the record companies (the labels) had record salesmen who called on the major stores, pushed product, took orders and handed out promotional copies of records to the eager youngsters who worked as salesclerks in the record stores.  I got this scarce promo from a salesman who called on the store.

COMMENTS:  This is a great and super scarce LP by Dino Valente (born Chester "Chet" Powers, Jr. and aka Dino Valenti).  I have had this record for decades and it has been very well cared for and PLAYED ONLY ONE TIME!  THIS ONE IS SUPER CLEAN AND IN TRUE NEAR MINT CONDITION.  It has been stored upright on strong shelving for decades.  This is a scarce vinyl recording.  Don't pass on it.  Questions?  Drop me a line. 

Dino was heavy into the folk, rock and songwriting scene on the east coast (New York, Boston and other NE areas) in the early 1960s.  By the middle and late 1960s he was a fixture in San Francisco area psychedelic rock and songwriting circles.

PLEASE NOTE THAT FAKE (BOOTLEG) PROMO-ONLY MONO PRESSINGS OF THIS ALBUM DO EXIST. THEY ARE IDENTIFIABLE BY THICKNESS OF THE VINYL (FAKE COPIES ARE THICKER THAN GENUINE PRESSINGS), HAND-ETCHED MATRIX NUMBERS IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL (ORIGINALS HAVE MACHINE STAMPS) AND CRUEDLY GLUED, UNEVEN AND ROUGH LABELS. FINALLY, NONE OF THE BOOTLEGS HAVE ALBUM TITLE PRINTED ON SHRINK WRAP!  THIS IS THE REAL DEAL AND A GENUINE ORIGINAL PRESSING. 

THIS IS A SUPER RARE COPY WITH THE ALBUM TITLE PRINTED DIRECTLY ON THE  SHRINK WRAP (NOT THE COVER ITSELF).  THE COVER  - OBVIOUSLY - IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINK (CELLOPHANE) WRAP. 

Until last week (on a previous eBay auction) this LP had been only rumored to exist and, to the best of my knowledge, is not listed in any price guide, record catalog or discography.  I am offering a second one of collection-worthy high quality.  This is the legendary white label promo-MONO recording of this legendary West Coast Psych/Folk album from 1968.  You have not heard this beautiful Psych classic unless and until you’ve heard it in its MONO mastered format.  This LP originally sold less than 2,000 copies and was quickly dropped from the Epic catalog as lacking any sales or commercial airplay potential.  (It was sort of like the Skip Spence LP was over in the Columbia Records catalog.)  It has since gained a massive cult following and is now considered one of the finest works out of the Bay area or of the psychedelic era.  Once you hear this album you'll forget all of your Nick Drakes, Tim Buckleys, Syd Barrets, Fred Neils and Skip Spences and fall in love with this one!!   

CONDITION:  The record/vinyl is in NEAR MINT condition.  The cover is in excellent+ condition with no cutout marks, splits or writing.  "DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE" is stamped on the back.  The labels are pristine white.  The labels are in excellent+ condition with no writing and the spindle holes are sharp and clean showing no use.  "RADIO STATION COPY" is printed on the labels.  I doubt that there are many more of these MONO PROMO Dino Valente albums out there - especially in this condition and with the PRINTED PLASTIC/CELLOPHANE COVER. (These are really rare.) This one is outstanding!!

Response to a Few Questions That I Have Received: 

Yes, the side #2 label looks as good or better than the side #1 label shown in the photo. 

Yes, the photos are of the actual record and cover.  I took the photos in my living room a last week.  I can provide more upon request. 

I have owned this LP since either 1968 or (more likely) 1969.  I worked in a record store and recall winning it and a bunch of other promos as a result of an in-store competition among the salesclerks.  The Columbia Records salesman let me have some promos from the trunk of his car and this was one of them.  (Back in those days the major record labels had salesmen who called on the largest record stores.  Hell, back in those days there were  "record stores" - which is amazing in retrospect.)  I recall playing a cut or two and then putting it back in the sleeve and cover and shelving it.  Other than for the purpose of this auction, I have not removed the LP from the cover since putting it away about 40 years ago.  It got mixed with some jazz LPs that I kept through the years.  IT IS AUTHENTIC. 

 Last week's auction of the same titled MONO promo record was auction # 350173854861  (I am not associated with that seller in any way).  The records that I am selling have been a part of my 40+ year personal collection of LPs.
