As the catalogue number suggests, as does the text on the back cover, "One Of A Kind", this is arguably the rarest Dire Straits record ever.
It was created for a contest winner and it was planned that there would be only copy made. A contest was done with a Canadian radio station (CFOX in Vancouver) and music store (A&B Sound in Vancouver) for one lucky winner to get a pair of tickets to a Dire Straits concert, a Philips CD player, and a Dire Straits album created especially for them containing songs selected by the winner. As they could choose songs anywhere from the first album to their latest album, the title became From Dire Straits To Brothers In Arms. The winner could have chosen more songs, but picked just:

As a result it's a short album.
In order to get the item to the winner in time, the art for the album jacket was created before the winner was picked and as a result does not list the track listing. After the winner was chosen, and the winner picked their songs, the master tape was made and lacquer cut. It was arranged with the sleeve printing company for the presses to be stopped immediately after printing started, with just one jacket to be kept and any others that came off the line to be destroyed, and the same was arranged with the vinyl manufacturer. This was almost done --- a total of 5 copies were created.
The jacket is a very attractive full colour package. The vinyl is housed in a plastic inner sleeve. Also included is a glossy photograph of the winner receiving his prizes from representatives of the radio station and store.
The vinyl is MINT: unplayed
The jacket is NEAR MINT: it has been in a protective sleeve for 26 years but has some very minor shelf wear and a slightly bent corner.
