Description
This is the Dire Straits 'Making Movies' vinyl LP from 1980 on Vertigo - 6359 034 - and it's a promo copy as it has 'Promotional Copy - Not for Resale' stamped in gold on the rear cover.
The album is hand-signed by Mark Knopfler, Pick Withers and John Illsley from the band. Mark Knopfler has signed 'Best for you John - Mark Knopfler' in back ink on the front cover. Pick Withers has simply signed 'Best wishes Pick Withers' on the from cover in blue biro, but the 'Best wishes' is slightly smudged. John Illsley has signed 'To John best wishes John Illsley' on the blue inner lyric sleeve. (Please see images for all three signatures).
The vinyl I would grade as 'good' condition as I know it has been played and I can see a couple of very minor marks. The inner sleeve is in very good condition with some minor fading in the edges. The cover I would again grade as good (poss very good) except there are a couple of minor frays on the edges - please see images.
Please note that I am not a dealer or a record collector. The items I am selling are all from the extensive collection of my late brother, John Shaw.
He was a great music enthusiast, workingfor both BBC and commercial radio stations in the East Midlands from 1980 until 2013 presenting various music shows, mostly folk and rock.
During this period he interviewed many bands and artists in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester and usually had them sign copies of the albums they were promoting at the time. He was also sent many promotional, DJ-only and white-label pressings direct from the record companies. I know that he interviewed Dire Straits before their gig at Derby Assembly Rooms on 16th December 1980 for the 'Castle Rock' programme on Radio Trent. This is when he had the album signed as I was with him at the (excellent) gig,
Sadly my brother passed away in November 2013, so I am slowly disposing of his extensive record collection.
All vinyl will be sent in special secure mailers with stiffeners.
