DOCTEUR NICO & L' ORCHESTRE AFRICAN FIESTA (Congo) Sonafric SAF 50007 (France) - 1975 (tracks recorded in 1967/68) A : Sanza zomi na mibale / Angele ozali wapi ? / Canshita / Marie nelle / Save me B : Zadio / Nalingi yo na motena / Nazali bloko te / Suavilo / Sookie En lisant le titre, vous vous êtes dit : Docteur Nico, afro punk ? melody67nelson à peter les plombs ou bien il essaie de nous faire avaler des couleuvres. C'est vrai, Docteur Nico à toujours fait une rumba soyeuse. Et c'est le cas pour 8 morceaux sur les 10 présentés ici. Mais voilà, un gars qui s'appelle Bovic est venu mettre le feu à la barraque. Un reprise de "Save me" (incroyable afro-rock-soul-garage sauvage, genre "Gloria" de Them repris par Otis Redding sous acid ! Et un OMNI (Objet Musical Non Identifié) intitulé "Sookie". En fait, j'avais déjà rédiger un commentaire pour ce morceau il y a longtemps que je n'avais jamais eu l'occasion de présenter. Et j'avais fini par l'utiliser presque intégralement pour la descripton du single "Medida" de Poly Rythmo. Parce que l'esprit punk-destroy de ces deux morceaux est identique ! Bref, le voici : ...just extraterrestrial, something to be raving mad, to be sick for the rest of your life, what you will do after having listened to this abominable tune will drive you directly at the best, to hospital, or in jail, at worst to your grave ! I didn't know there was something stronger than acid, but it seems that Dr Nico & Bovic knew a diabolical substance ! It's not afro, or funk, or beat, or psyché, or rock, or soul, or punk, or powerful, or wonderful, or awful, or I don't know what else, no, it's all of that, and more...To say "raw vocal" it's really weak, "wild drums" is just ridiculous, to try to describe the many impossible insane conga break will be in vain...yes there is an heavy electrified guitar...do I need to continue ? Only one advice : Stay distant from that record if you don't want to loose your mind, it's really infectious...Let's all chant : last night, the Dj ruined my life ! A word to the wise ! How could he possibly make a link between Doctor Nico and afro funk ? It is true that Docteur Nico has laways palyed a smooth rumba. And it is the case for 8 out of the 10 tracks in this LP. But then a guy called Bovic came and set the house on fire. A cover of Save me (increadible savage afro-rock-soul-garage, like a cover of Gloria (Them) by Otis Redding tripping with acid. And an UMO (Unidentified Musical Object) called Sookie. In fact, I had once written a description for this piece and I never had the oportunity to use it. So I ended up using most of it to describe the single Medina by Poly Rythmo, beacause the two tracks share the same kind of spirit. GRADING For LP / NOTATION pour les disques :
NM (NEAR MINT) : Near perfect copy, played only a few times.At worst it may have one or two insignificant flaws.The highest grade I give for a non-seled record .../ Disque et pochette impéccables, joué seulement quelques fois.Au pire, une ou deux traces insignifiantes.C'est le grade le plus haut que je donne pour un disque non scellé...
EX (EXCELLENT) : Clean copy, there may be few very light light surface traces/hairlines, and few very light insignificant crackles, cover has minor defaults. / Disque en excellent état, possibilité de très lègères traces en surface et de quelques grésillement insignifiants, pochette avec défauts mineurs....
VG++ (VERY GOOD++) : Few light surface traces/scuffs, few very light crackles. There may be few traces on the cover, corners or slices slightly worn...Nothing serious but is not graded EX because of few minor defaults / Très bon état dans l'ensemble, avec de légères traces ou marques en surface. Quelques traces possibles sur la a pochette, coins ou tranches légèrement usées. Rien de sérieux mais assez de petits défauts pour ne pas être classé EX.
VG+ (VERY GOOD +) : Played a lot, will show signs of handling, has surface marks or scuffs, plays with light crackles or light surface noise background, no serious scuffs (no jumps). Cover slighty worn (traces, light ring wear, dog eraed, corner ans slices slightly worn...) / Disque qui a tourné, visiblement utilisé, avec des marques ou rayures en surface, des craquements légers ou un bruit de surface en fond, mais pas de griffes sérieuse (ne saute pas). Pochette un peu uséee avec quelques traces, cornée, coins et tranches légèrement abimée, saleté).
VG (VERY GOOD) : Used record, played a lot, has marks and scuffs, crackles and few clicks while playing, sometimes constants but not too sérious, no jumps. Still quite listenable. Cover worn, may have corner and slices worn or damaged, ring wear, serious traces or little splits, slightly ripped / Disque qui a été souvent joué avec traces et rayures diverses, quelques griffes et des craquements audibles, parfois constants mais pas trop sérieux. Ne saute pas.Globalement écoutable... Pochette usée et défraichie, un peu déchirée, coins et tranches cornés ou abimés, traces sérieuses ou petits coups...
VG- (VERY GOOD MINUS) : Played a lot and more (but still playable), lot of scruffs and marks, lots of crackles while playing, sometimes serious, may have serious clicks (or few little jumps). The cover is damaged.../ Disque très utilisé (et peut l'être encore), beaucoup de griffes et de marques, craquements sérieux, rayé (avec la possibilité de sauter légèrement). La pochette est endommagée...
G (GOOD) : Indeed, not so good...but still alive ! Played while his entire life (and once again today !), or really ill-traited...Lots of traces, marks and scuffs, serious crackles and surface noises while playing, serious clicks, may have jumps...And the cover is really in a bad state too...Must be very rare to be proposed in this state.../ En effet, pas si bon...mais encore vivant ! Utilisé durant sa vie entière (et aujourd'hui encore !), ou vraiment maltraité...Beaucoup de traces, marques, rayures, sérieux craquements et bruits de surface, rayé et peut même sauté quelques fois...Et la pochette est aussi en très mauvais état...Vraiment une rareté pour être présenté dans cet état...
