JOE VENUTI AND EDDIE LANG were the Promethian duo who "invented" Violin and Guitar as solo jazz instruments. Not only that, but right from the start they set the bar so high, nobody surpassed them except maybe Stephane Grappely and Django Reinhardt in the '30s.
Here is a prime piece of evidence: "DOIN' THINGS" and "GOIN' PLACES," a stupendous couple of compositions, done to a turn. Pianist ARTHUR SCHUTT lends discreet hands to the accompaniment.
This riginal 1927 Cherry Red "Electric" OKeh 40825 is in sturdy V++ condition. It's got just a little wear and a few scratches. There's a strange L-shaped bit of damage on "Doin' Things" that will bump a little for several turns.
