Description

Dollar Brand 'Underground In Africa' (Mandla Records, 1974).

Up for auction is a rare jazz LP "Underground in Africa," Mandala Records, KRS-114, 1974.

Lineup for this album is: Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim), piano; Nazier Kapdi, drums; Lionel Beukes, Fender bass; Basil Chetzee, 1st tenor; Arthur Jacobs, 2nd tenor; Robbie Jansen, Alto.

Tracks are:

  • Kalahari
  • Ornettes Cornet
  • All Day & All Night Long
  • Gwidza (In Memory of Cambel Gwidza)

Although the album cover identifies it as a Mandla Record, the label says Soultown Records. This is because it was produced by the owner of Soultown Records who had to press it himself. It is the only record made under Mandla Records.

Record is in VG+ condition. There are light lines on the playing surfaces, but nothing that should affect play. The label also has light scratch lines, mostly around record hole. Label has the date 1974.

The album cover is a gatefold and is the thin laminated cardboard common to English and other overseas recordings. There is visible corner wear and wear on opening edges. There are some small creases. There is light wear on all seams, but no splits. Inside cover has a notation in ink consisting of someone's initials and the date 10/9/74. There are no other marks or any stains. Please e-mail me with any questions.
