NEVER BEEN a big fan of Donovan - far too hippy trippy for me - but this album is totally awesome. I think the reason why I like this one is that the music is heavy hitting and he's backed by a simply sensational 'rock' band including guitarist Chris Spedding, keyboardist John 'Rabbit' Bundrick, bassist Phillip Chen and drummers Alan White and Cozy Powell. The title track, for instance, sounds like Marc Bolan meets Roxy Music whilst 'Sleep' is just about as cosmic as anything by Hawkwind. 'Wild Witch Lady' continues the mayhem with Donovan delivering an unusually manic vocal surrounded by 'heavy' orchestration and a solid kick-ass band. My favourite track is 'Appearances' a superb brooding song powered by sublime piano and Donovan's restless vocal.
The one nod to his past is the track 'Intergalactive Laxative' an achingly funny ode to space waste human style.
Great packaging and very tough to find in good shape - this one is really nice.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Superb clean condition. No spindle marks and no other signs of use. Grades as top MINT-!
Cover: Again, no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated textured diecut 'unipak' style gatefold cover including folded circular poster. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is perfectly, straight and stiff. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 43 years after release. Grades as shop fresh MINT!
