Description
Up for auction is a super rare copy of the Donovan album "Sunshine Superman" originally released on Epic Records (LN-24217) in 1966. This is a guaranteed, original Mono first U.S. pressing, with correct "1A" and "1A" stampers in the run-out deadwax. Not a cheap reissue, import, or re-processed stereo version like most for sale on eBay.
Note: This album was never released in the U.K. because of a contract dispute; thus this is the only true first pressing. The U.K. version on Pye was released in 1967 and is not the first release of this album, as many uninformed dealers claim.
Cover is in really nice condition. Front cover looks close to "as new", with almost no signs of previous wear or handling. No ring wear or rubbing losses. Looks like it was just taken out of the original shrink wrap. Corners look sharp; though the upper right has a tiny crease, hardly worth mentioning. Seams are strong, intact, no splits, and no rubbing losses. Back cover looks very nice, no wring wear, no writing. Some very light smudges near bottom middle (see photo). Also some very faint aging along edges, but not enough to detract from the overall attractiveness. Grade the cover Near Mint Minus (NM-). One of the nicest examples of this cover you'll come across.
The vinyl is also in very nice condition, retaining its original high gloss shine. Very clean looking, though it does have a couple very little hairlines, and a small needle mark on Side Two track 3 (plays through on my turntable with a few light ticks). Some faint signs from having been taken in and out of paper inner sleeve. Labels are clean and bright, no signs of wear. I doubt this record has been played more than a few times, very well-preserved. Grade the vinyl Near Mint Minus (NM-) for Side One, and Excellent Minus (EX-) for Side Two.
