Original Private UK LP released on NB Records in 1980.

Excellent Experimental DIY Post Punk band.

As shape-shiftingly bizarre and crude as it came in Britain circa 1979-81, THE DOOR AND THE WINDOW were leading edge experimentalists from the THROBBING GRISTLE and CABARET VOLTAIRE school, with slightly more punk heft in their later days a la the Desperate Bicycles, Fall, etc.

They had an association with F--k Off Records and Mark Perry (Alternative TV, Sniffin’ Glue fanzine) was a onetime member. The band proudly played up their inability to play their instruments and their full-on naiveté on their earliest recordings. Before the term was used to describe clanging dance music, it’s what many people of the day might refer to as “Industrial”

The 1980 “Detailed Twang” LP, however, is picture-perfect UK DIY, with twisted, loping synth riffage, deep-accented shouting, and several tracks that would be right at home on any Rough Trade encapsulation of the first-wave experimental DIY era. There’s even a drum-&-vocal-only run through the TV PERSONALITIES' “Part Time Punks” (for some reason). This is the record that Perry signed up to drum on, after The Door and the Window had exhausted their “let’s use a different drummer every gig!” approach – the band gradually discovered rhythm, structure, and – gasp – songs.

Skeletal stumblebum idiot savant song form fragmentation that vacillates between moments of delirious jerry-rigged inspiration and passages that border on the insufferably sophomoric, brought to you by this batch of DIY rabble rousers whose stance and attitude (complete with DIY manifestos on the back cover) aligned them strongly at the time with the likes of The Desperate Bicycles. Loosely yoked to a whole network of willfully rinky dink art damage, Nag and Bendle (2/3 of The Door And The Window) also participated in The 49 Americans, a group with a similar propensity for inspired faux naif art brut whimsy and Mark Perry (the other 1/3) was of course the leader of Alternative TV.

We offer combined shipping on all LPs / 12" Vinyls: our shipping rates are listed above. HOWEVER shipping packages that weigh more than 2kg is VERY expensive. Therefore we can only offer combined shipping up to a maximum of SEVEN (7) LPs / 12" vinyls. Any extra purchases will be invoiced, packaged and shipped separately.

PAYMENT

I would appreciate payment within seven days of the auction’s end. If you want to bid on more of my auctions ending a week later please inform me. I will wait and issue a combined invoice at the close of the second week’s auctions.

However, I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks and in these cases would appreciate payment promptly after the close of the second week’s auctions.

I am sorry to have to introduce these measures – I always try to be patient and allow buyers to bid on extra auctions and / or delay payment. Unfortunately some buyers have been stretching out transactions to unacceptable lengths so I feel I have no option but to limit ‘carried over’ transactions to two weeks.
