DORRIS HENDERSON & JOHN RENBOURN There You Go (Columbia SX 6001) Mono Vinyl LP, 1965
F = Fair condition for 1965 LP
The late Los Angeles-raised singer Dorris Henderson had already made something of a name for herself on the LA folk club scene and recorded with legendary beat raconteur Lord Buckley before she decided to try her luck in England. Arriving in 1965, she secured a residency on a BBC show and teamed up with a talented young guitarist named John Renbourn. This first album together was released on Columbia that year, ahead of Renbourn's eponymous solo debut and his later teaming with Bert Jansch and Pentangle. With its mixture of traditional British and North American folk and contemporary songs by Cyril Tawney, Ewan MacColl, and Bob Dylan, the album is cited by many folk aficionados as one of the classics of the '60s UK folk boom. After a second LP together, Henderson's subsequent activities included a stint with Trevor Lucas in Eclection. The 1999 Big Beat reissue of this album on CD is no longer available.
