Everyone thought they were just rivals, but there was a lot in common between the punk and metal crowds. Their hair, clothes, ideologies, origins and social classes might be different, but the similarities were many: rebellion, anger, frustration, an aggressive attitude and a passion for music combined with youthful angst, in addition to the prejudice and repression they suffered from society. 
Eventually, during the 1980s, punk and metal merged, creating the crossover. The merger, substantially speaking, was not simple, much less smooth. Even more so in Brazil, where everything arrived late, including the desire for free and progressive critical thinking after 21 years of military dictatorship. Few bands were in tune with the breath of change of the crossover between metal and punk, while the craze was raging in the big urban centers and their peripheral regions, leaving countless young victims in its wake. 
Before the End, Dorsal Atlântica's first LP, is a pioneering milestone in the fusion of metal with punk and hardcore in Brazil. It is also the Rosetta Stone of Brazilian metal, whose content was crucial to the understanding of heavy rock produced in the country — the repertoire includes nine furious, lethal and fast songs like nothing else made in Brazil until then. The lyrics addressed topics such as “racial minorities and the misinterpretation of music in distorted minds” in “Caçador da noite”, about the popular Latin serial killer Richard Ramirez, known as the night stalker, who was a fan of AC/DC and Judas Priest.
This Rocinante/Três Selos edition is on 180g gray vinyl and includes a double cover, envelope with letters and text by journalist and writer Bento Araujo, author of the Lindo Sonho Delirante book series.
