HEAVY PETTING
1st UK PRESS VERTIGO SWIRL 6360 009 Matrices 1Y//1 and 2Y//1 earliest mother stampers A super rare very first day of issue super swirl!! This copy is one of just probably a dozen known to have the track "Sign on my mind" spelled as "Sigh ...), super rare!!! This track most definitely also inspired a famous future Wishbone Ash track.
VERTIGO INNER: (Just light age related yellowing, no seam splits, fully polylined)
2nd album by the great Irish Prog-Folk band Dr. Strangely Strange, which was originally released on the legendary Vertigo label. The band, similar to other bands active in UK at the time, like Fairport Convention and Incredible String Band, plays a mixture of Folk and Prog, which still retains the magic of the era after all these years. This has a young Gary Moore debuting his skills on record!!
DR. STRANGELY STRANGE "HEAVY PETTING". 1970 UK VERTIGO SWIRL LABEL ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING VINYL LP. THE CATALOGUE NUMBER IS 6360 009. STEREO. DIE CUT FOLD OUT SLEEVE. WITH THE ORIGINAL VERTIGO SWIRL INNER BAG.
On their first album, Irish band Doctor Strangely Strange declared themselves to be "strangely strange but oddly normal," and by their time of their second effort, 1970's Heavy Petting, it's possible that "oddly normal" no longer applied. The spiritual cousins of the Incredible String Band, although less rooted in folk traditions, their music flitted around like a butterfly, rarely settling anywhere for long -- and certainly never for the length of an entire song. "Gave My Love an Apple," for example, begins as a folk ditty, and then morphs into an extended electric bluesy guitar solo that has little to do with what went before. Childlike in its innocence, the album seems eager to taste all the possible flavors of music in a short span, making it a miracle that it holds together at all, let alone as well as it does. For make no mistake, Heavy Petting is something of a hippy joy. Joe Boyd's production is pristine, and the playing is well above the amateur standard of so many bands of the ilk, even if the frequent left turns of the material -- try "Summer Breeze" and "When Adam Delved" as examples -- makes things disorienting, but in a good way. If you're willing to expect the unexpected, you'll love it. (allmusic.com)
RARE ROGER DEAN DESIGN SLEEVE AND MOST ELABORATE OF ALL THE VERTIGO ARTWORK AND .... HARDEST TO FIND INTACT >>99% OF ALL COPIES HAVE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM, LIKE SMALL TEARS < CREASES OR EVEN FLAPS MISSING IN ACTION. This copy, although not at all perfect and actually shows use all over is at the very least complete with flaps still attached.
This album is so very scarce and barely ever comes up for auction, definitely with the 5 to 10 hardest swirls to find.
Vinyl: VG. This has a few hairlines and one more prominent one on side 1. On replay the sound is loud and clear without much untoward, just some low level static in places. A few low level ticks on the hairline on side 1. Altogether a very enjoyable listen as played on my Technics turntable with a Linn Sondek cartridge and a Rotel amp. No major faults, NO distortion, NO skips, NO jumps. The labels are nice.
Gimmix gatefold sleeve: G/VG. The sleeve is complete with flaps still attached. A mini tear on the front right flap. Evidence of past sellotape traces on the edges. To the rear two repaired sticker tears as evident in picture 9. The pictures are part of the description so please have a close look at each of them. A tiny nick to the front top where a price sticker was removed. The edges have moderate wear. The opening, though not crisp, is in pretty fine condition. No tears on the die cut areas.
Inner Swirl sleeve: VG+. Complete with poly liner. No seam splits. Light creasing and age related yellowing.
Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly! PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST, if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one! I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem! This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem. Thanks again!!
International postage will incur an extra tracking/insurance fee if item sells for over £30.00.
Returns are accepted if not fully satisfied but please read the description carefully as this item is not EX or NM. The buyer is responsible for postage expense for returns.
This an excellent investment opportunity!!! Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
