Originally released in 1989, Thrash Zone marked the fifth full-length from Texas/California crossover thrash/hardcore heroes DRI (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles). Following on from 1988's 4 Of A Kind, while living up to its title, the material continued to stray further away from their hardcore punk origins, embracing and prioritising a frenetic thrash metal assault, complete with galloping speed riffage and rapid-fire drumming. Their most successful release up to that point, the album would spawn the singles 'Abduction' and 'Beneath The Wheel', with the latter receiving heavy rotation on MTV and even appearing on the videogame soundtrack to Skate 2. If your ears can't decide whether it wants some Anthrax or Circle Jerks, then the DRI will happily/reliably bridge that gap between thrash aggro and irreverent hardcore chaos.
