DRUID – wouldn’t that be a great name for a Folk/Heathen Metal band? Basically yes, but unfortunately the name has been taken for an eternity. Then again, there unfortunately are enough idiots, who either do not know better or simply don’t give a damn about band names of old cult acts such as GRIFFIN, WRATH or MARTYR. Shame on your ass!
Anyway, back to DRUID. The band debuted back in 1986 via their own label Crossbone Records with the 7 inch "Four Curses" and two years later pushed out the LP "Vampire Cult". In Europe it got released via Black Dragon Records, And as one could imagine, the big magazines tore it apart and the fanzines loved it. I really like the album, because it’s really cranky. The music could come from the early days of the NWoBHM or go through as lost material of PAGAN ALTAR. Or also MANILLA ROAD, shortly after their "Invasion" time.
Sure, for 99,5% of all current Metalheads the album most probably is as interesting as chronic diarrhoea, but for the old bags among you should have a look out for it. Of course only, if you don’t have problems with doomy sounds or speedy eruptions. Because you get lost of each on "Vampire Cult". And they managed to avoid the usual clichés to this very day. DRUID’s basic atmosphere had been pretty dark, like for example WITCHFINDER GENERAL, but at the same time they also managed to sound rather happy. Sounds perverted, but it’s the case. The sound also is pretty good and does what it wants.
