Description
LEVY'S/ORIOLE single sided 10" unnumbered disc: DUKE ELLINGTON Souvenir of Duke Ellington's First Visit To England 1933
This is probably one of the rarest Duke Ellington issues, being only available in one store in London as a bonus record for people willing to buy half-a-dozen discs by the same artist. As Ellington collectors will know, the record consists of an interview with Duke during the course of which he answers questions and plays the piano. Ellington signed the wax master and his autograph therefore appears etched across the bottom of the label on all copies of this item. The other side of the disc has Levy's/Oriole trademark embossed into the wax. An excellent copy of this rare item - see below.
CONDITION: EtoE- with a few very minor marks only and little general groove wear. There is some surface dirt. This disc would benefit from being cleaned. The label has the date of recording and the initials of a previous owner scratched on it. On the reverse, the same person has scratched their name into a blank part of the wax.
Please note that we have been selling 78rpm records for over 30 years and have extensive experience in both grading and packing records of this type. For grading we use the standard system as used in the leading collectors' magazines. For mailing, we use custom made cardboard squares and boxes together with heavy-duty bubblewrap.
