DURAN DURAN - In Concert 294; (CN4123S / 151737 - S/151738 - S), BBC Transcription Service; Vinyl LP, UK 1983, with cue sheet, rare BBC biography sheet and original BBC custom cover (yellow w/green print, sticker on back cover - radio station info), polylin. inner sleeve.
Original Radio LP - not a bootleg, broadcast bootleg or later reprint. Scarce complete set!
Condition vinyl: near mint (played once or twice for broadcasting purposes); condition cover: near mint, condition label: near mint (clean, w/o any writing etc.).
Very rare BBC In Concert radio show. Recorded live for BBC radio broadcast, not commercially available. Limited one run pressing of less than 50 copies. Close to 1 hour commercial free live music. Duran Duran started 1982 with the results of the Record mirror readers poll. They topped the voting five categories- Best Band, Best Album Sleeve, Best Video and Best Live Show. It took just two years for Duran Duran to become one of Britains most popular bands. They released multiple smash hit singles, couple best selling albums and have proved themselves on stage from Tokyo to Toronto, America to Australia.
But the Duran Duran success story began in February 1981 with the release of their first single, 'Planet Earth'. They made the U.K charts at their first attempt and by April were enjoying their second hit, 'Careless Memories'. In July they released one of the biggest hits of 1981, 'Girls on Film',which went on to become a worldwide best seller. In the meantime their first album, called 'Duran Duran', was showing the band to be more than just an offshoot of the transitory 'new romantic' movement. Their music had become more than a match for their image and they completed 1981 with another hit, 'My Own Way'. An amazing year for a band with an average of less than twenty. 1982 was just as good for them with three Top Ten singles, 'Hungry Like the Wolf', 'Save a Prayer' and 'Rio'. It was also the year they took their stage show on a mammoth tour through Europe, the Far East, America and the U.K., ending with five sell-out performances at London's Hammersmith Odeon!
The band's triumphant return to the London stage can be heard in this BBC In Concert recording.
