DUSTY SPRINGFIELD DUSTY IN MEMPHIS ORIG.1969 LP SEALED!
From 1969 comes this original factory sealed vinyl pressing of Dusty Springfield's all-time classic LP Dusty In Memphis (Atlantic SD 8214) - complete with its "Contains 'Son of a Preacher Man'" plug sticker.
Was a greater album released in the final year of music's most-celebrated decade? Abbey Road? Let It Bleed? From Elvis In Memphis? The Velvet Underground? Arthur? Nashville Skyline? Classics all, but eventually they all must bow down to the finest hour from the first lady of the British Invasion, Dusty Springfield, and her Jerry Wexler/Tom Dowd/Arif Mardin-produced foray into the world of Memphis Soul, Dusty In Memphis. The Top 10 hit "Son of a Preacher Man" is just the icing on the cake. With Dusty's simultaneously sultry, salty, teasing, and whispering delivery on confections such as Mann/Weil's "Just A Little Lovin'," Goffin/King's "So Much Love," "Don't Forget About Me," "No Easy Way Down," and "I Can't Make It Alone," Randy Newman's "I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore" and "Just One Smile," and Ed Hinton and Donnie Fritts' unforgettable "Breakfast In Bed," its not hard to understand the enduring appeal of pop music's finest - and certainly most soulful - vocalist's most-beloved LP. What is hard to understand, however, is its comparative failure in the marketplace upon release. Peaking at a measly #99 on Billboard's Top 200 seems a cruel fate for such a first-class affair and remains especially curious, considering the back-to-back hit single successes of "Son of a Preacher Man" and "The Windmills Of Your Mind," but such was the prevailing "tastes" of the album buyers of the day due to their growing (and occasionally misdirected) distain towards pop artists. Their loss. As a result, original pressings of this belatedly well-known LP are fairly hard-to-find . . . and sealed pressings almost impossible.
This LP - still being factory sealed after all these years - appears to be in mint condition, save for a cut-out hole in its lower left-hand corner, some minor rippling visible along its back cover slick, and a few small spots of discoloration in the lower right-hand corner of the back cover as well.
To protect your investment, this LP - as with all vinyl purchased at The Great Escape Online - will be placed in a new plastic outer sleeve prior to packing and shipping.
