Sometimes memories distort or inflate the quality of recordings deemed legendary, but in the case of Dusty in Memphis, the years have only strengthened its reputation.
The idea of taking England's reigning female soul queen to the home of the music she had mastered was an inspired one.
The Jerry Wexler/Tom Dowd/Arif Mardin production and engineering team picked mostly perfect songs, and those that weren't so great were salvaged by Springfield's marvellous delivery and technique.
This set has definitive numbers in "So Much Love," "Son of a Preacher Man," "Breakfast in Bed," "Just One Smile," "I Don't Want to Hear About It Anymore," and "Just a Little Lovin'" and ranks as one of the finest British albums of the 60s

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright, fresh and unmarked with barely a spindle trace to be seen - no clear marks, just a little light rubbing around the centre hole - this copy has clearly seen little play
VINYL Visual: The vinyl lies perfectly flat on the turntable and both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen with a beautiful lustre. Apart from a small scuff mark on the edge of Side Two and a small spot on "Breakfast In Bed" on Side One the record appears practically as new and neither of these marks have any major audio consequence - the record plays beautifully throughout
VINYL Audio: Sensational audio delivery in every respect with a crystal clear, warm, rich and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always a great pleasure to return to this one as I adore this LP) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps and no loud clicks or pops (the mark on the beginning of Side Two has minimal impact with only one or two dull sounds as it is passed over (very, very minor and only background). This is a great copy and the whole LP plays to a very high standard with superb clarity, no discernible groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded EXCELLENT+ for audio - fantastic LP - very, very highly recommended
SLEEVE: The original fully laminated sleeve is in VERY GOOD+ condition. The surfaces retain their original deep, glass-like glossy sheen with no rubbing but there are some creases to the corners and some patches of wear to the edges. It is still however, a very fine example and the sleeve is good and solid with no structural damage and all text on the spine is clear and bold
