Description
The Daisy Chain "Straight or Lame?" An unusual and rare independently pressed album. 1967 United International 13001 Mono. Features Rosemary Lane on vocals and bass guitar, Camille on vocals, organ and piano; Shel Le on vocals, rythmn, and lead guitar; Dee Dee Lea on vocals percussion, flute and harmonica. Side one is mastered too hot, probably all copies were this way. The sound is slightly distorted. Side two sounds fine. Great all girl 60's sound. Garage psyche meets a little R&B.
Side One: I'll Come Running, Because of Him, ZZotto, Run Spot, Run, Unhappy For Me, Got to Get You in my Arms. Side Two: Superfluous Daisy, Love Them All, We'll Meet Again, Love to Share, I'll Say Goodbye, Final Hour.
Liner notes read the following: To find out where Spot ran, ask ZZotto. To find out who ZZotto is, ask Spot. If ZZotto knows where Spot is running, I'll come running; otherwise, if running knows, wipe it. What is superfluous about Daisy? They come in all shapes, sizes and color. Special Daisies grow in pots. Daisies need food and nourishment so, please sprinkle them with milk often. Daisies love them all. Speaking of love, chain yourself to daisies and don't wait till the final hour for they might wilt. Jane loves Spot. Isn't that out of control!! I've heard of dogs conversing but this is out of focus, however. I've also heard that conversing but this is out. Jane is a real dog. Love is all the same whether straight or lame.
Wow! Most of the song are all original, except "We'll Meet Again". All the songs were arranged by the band. This would be an excellent addition for all you collectors who cherish the extremely rare 60's groups. My husband has made a copy for himself and if he wasn't such a greedy bastard (his words!) he'd probably keep it! Lucky for me, our already record cluttered house will get a break this week to your advantage! Vinyl and cover are in excellent shape, with the original shrinkwrap intact.
On Jul-08-04 at 16:49:50 PDT, seller added the following information:A little more info- pretty interesting: "Straight Or Lame" 1967 (United International lpm-13001 [mono cover, mono record] "Straight Or Lame" 1967 (United International lpm-13001 [mono cover, stereo record] -- 500 covers made. All covers say mono but mono records are considerably rarer. The stereo discs are binaural 'fake stereo' and rather badly done. Rosemary Lane went on to sing backup for Jackson Browne under the name of Butler. [RM] --- This is the holy grail of femme psych, with supposedly only 500 copies pressed.
A friend sent us this additional info on the album, and as it states her, though the album cover states "mono", indeed the actual vinyl says "duophonic" on the label. This would explain side one sounding the way it does. This is the "holy grail" folks, bid away!!!
