Description
Wow, here's a record that is serious midcentury "Mad Men"-era royalty -- a great listening LP with a storied history.
This is "Jazz: Red Hot and Cool," recorded by the Dave Brubeck quartet featuring Paul Desmond in 1954 and 1955 at Basin Street and released in 1955.
Brubeck is an American treasure and this is probably his greatest album cover ever -- in mint to near mint condition with no known issues.
It is the result of a collaboration with cosmetics giant Helena Rubenstein to promote her company's new lipstick called -- you guessed it -- "Red Hot and Cool."
Rubenstein brought all the talent. The lady on the cover is 1950s supermodel Suzy Parker, shown with Brubeck at the piano of course. The photographer, as credited in the lower left corner is the giant Richard Avedon, upon whose life and work the 1957 Audrey Hepburn/Fred Astaire film "Funny Face" was based.
This copy, as I have indicated is mint to near mint with no major issues. It has only very minor age wear to the jacket and the word "George" written on the A-side label. This is the mono, "Columbia" label. It will be securely shipped.
