Dave Brubeck Quartet Take Five LP on the Columbia 6-eye label from late 1959 up for sale. This is an early pressing of a now classic which has been reproduced thousands of times since it was recorded. All of the attributes lead me to believe this is a 1959 pressing. The matrix on side "A" is 1AH, and on side "B" is 1K. I have had several copies of this record in my lifetime, but I always revert back to the earliest of pressings to enjoy the spareness of the room as the drums kick off "Take Five"! There is something very special about the recording process from those days which has not been replicated. Perhaps it was that the process was actually treated as a science where proper space in the room, and proper microphone placement all mattered to the engineers to maximize the sound quality of the instruments. This is one of those recordings where a newer copy just does not do it justice. The jacket is VG+ (it has been taped along the bottom edge. There is a number "3" on the back jacket in the bottom right corner which indicates it was printed at Modern Album on Long Island, NY. I have owned a record store for a number of years. I still recommend this titled to folks wanting to dabble with a listen to jazz. If you want to hear it properly, this is what you need!
