I try to use the Gold mine Standard when grading all record.
- Mint (M): Perfect, never played, still sealed. = Sleeve should be perfect also
- Near Mint (NM or M-): Near Perfect, Record should show no signs of wear = Sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling
- Very Good Plus (VG+): Show some signs of wear. Like light scuffs or very light scratches that will not affect listening experience. Record Label Should not have a misshapen hole = Sleeve slight wear, they may have a cut-out hole, lightly turned up corners, or slight seam splitting
- Very Good (VG): many of the defects from VG+, but will be more pronounced. Surface noise while playing especially on the quite areas. But will not over power the music. Grove wear and scratches that you can feel with a finger nail. That will affect sound = Sleeve may have writing or tape.
- Good (G) and Good Plus (G+): can be played without skipping, significant surface noise = A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.
- Poor (P) and Fair (F): cracked badly warped water damage, all seams split, inner sleeve fully split
