Although it was originally released as Dave Davies' first solo single, "Death of a Clown" was later added to the Kinks' 1967 album Something Else by the Kinks and has been considered a Kinks song ever since. Small wonder, since it was co-written by Ray Davies, features all of the Kinks, and even features Ray's wife Rasa Davies singing the haunting (if slightly off-key) "la-la-la" backing vocals that are the song's primary hook. The song is surprisingly poetic, even artsy, for a guy whose public reputation was that of a hard-living rock and roller, but Davies' appealingly hoarse, rough-edged voice, which cracks a bit on key lines in a way that both Rod Stewart and Lloyd Cole would later appropriate, mostly keeps the pretentiousness to a minimum, as does the jolly, pubby feel of the arrangement, dominated by Nicky Hopkins' barrelhouse piano. Defiantly jubilant in the face of sadness, "Death of a Clown" is a gem, every bit as good as his more celebrated brother's best work.

SS still sealed

NM near mint. cover and record looks like new.

Ex cover and record looks almost like new.

VG+ cover may show light wear but still looks very nice / record may have very light surface marks or scuffs which have little or no effect on play. may have a little surface noise but should sound great. 

VG but not quite VG+ cover will have some wear / record may have surface marks, scuffs, some light surface scratches, some surface noise, but should sound very good.

VG- cover has more wear, may have some splitting / record defects will be more pronounced than VG, may have more and deeper scratches, scuffs, and more surface noise, but still plays OK  Will only list very rare records in this condition or worse.

G cover will have a lot of wear, may be completely split / record is heavily scratched but plays , but might skip or jump.
