Debut LP by folksinger/guitarist Dave Van Ronk, and a difficult one to come by in this first issue on the Folkways label. Van Ronk, also known as the "Mayor of MacDougal Street" was one of the first live performers I ever saw as a teenager in New York City. Although a contemporary and acquaintance of Bob Dylan back in the early '60s, the fame and acclaim that should have been due eluded him. He was the inspiration for the (fictional) title character in the Coen Brothers 'Inside Llewyn Davis' movie. This album has been re-released in the later 1960s under the titles of 'Gambler's Blues' and 'Black Mountain Blues,' and also in 2011 in Europe on 180g vinyl under its original title, but this original is rather rare. Also comes with the original insert/lyric sheet. Don't be fooled; any LP with a cover other than this one with the Expresso Machine on it is a reissue. Also, his name is misspelled on the label - Dave Von Ronk.
