Ziggy Stardust is the fifth studio album by David Bowie, released in June It was co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott and features Bowie's backing band the Spiders from Mars — Mick Ronson(guitar), Trevor Bolder (bass) and Mick Woodmansey (drums).

Described as a loose concept album and rock opera, Ziggy Stardust focuses on Bowie's titular alter ego Ziggy Stardust, a fictional androgynous and bisexual rock star who is sent to Earth as a saviour before an impending apocalyptic disaster.

It was co-produced again by Bowie and Ken Scott and features contributions from Bowie's backing band the Spiders from Mars.

Seen as a companion piece to Ziggy Stardust… Bowie described it as “Ziggy Stardust goes to America”.

Bowie was suffering from various drug addictions, most prominently cocaine, and later said that he recalled almost nothing of the production.
