Listed as used but actually only played about 3 times in its life since the early 2000s (or possibly 1999 I can't remember when I bought it) and only once in the last 18 years for this listing, this is a rare Simply Vinyl edition of David Bowie's album, the excellence of which does not need to be explained or introduced in any way, shape or form.
This LP has been played but is in exactly the same condition as from new. It plays through from start to finish with no pops or skips but does have some (very) little manufacturing marks and sonic blemishes, which I will list below. Please note: I am a very conservative grader of LPs. I do not grade any played record above very good, even if it was mint (which no record ever is) as I think it is dishonest. I prefer to be specific about condition as I know what it is like to get things which are not as described.
Plastic sleeve: As new with silver sticker, embossed Simply Vinyl logo and sticker which originally sealed the LP neatly stuck on the back.
As with virtually all Simply Vinyl plastic sleeves, this one has some splitting but I have personally never seen a SV sleeve without splits. I think it is the plastic drying out over the years and getting brittle. There are some splits on the flap and a split/tear bottom right of the front. These are all relatively minor and the sleeve is generic to the SV series anyway-easily replaced if you cared.
Cover: As new, no splits. There is a whisper of a tiny pressure crease above the D on the front cover, which is impossible to photograph because it is so minor. Also, a tiny shallow pressure crease on the left side of the sleeve. Not noticeable unless you were really staring at it like a lunatic. The paper is matt card and marks easily so held up to the light there are some minor scuff marks but these were on there from new. No copy of this album would be free of these because the plastic sleeve marks the paper as the cover is slid into it. The sleeve has been stored away from light and the cover image is glorious with no discolouration. Small pressure crease at the top, middle of the back cover but again extremely minor and not noticeable in a plastic sleeve. It is gatefold and has the famous image of Bowie inside. I have seen two copies of this album in my life and on both, the card is cut slightly jaggedly on the right hand side of the image. See Photo. This really does not detract from the image at all but it is a manufacturing blemish. There is also an indentation, which was there from new, on the image near Bowie's face. Only noticeable if you hold the image up to the light. Overall, a beautiful sleeve.
Insert: As new and also includes the SV catalogue sheet, which I believe is quite rare. The insert is printed on paper, which creases just by looking at it. it does have some very minor "thumb and finger" creasing but all from the factory and as new. Fab pictures of Mr Bowie in his artistic prime.
Vinyl: As new and played about 3 times. The record does have some very slight spindle marks, which would be me being clumsy but nothing heavy. The record comes in a poly lined sleeve but does have some little marks and hairlines-all from new and not from any form of abuse. The sound quality of this LP is generally superb but there are some brief little blemishes I noticed: At the very start of Aladdin Sane there are some brief little low-level ticks (absolutely not pops) and I did notice a momentary little bit of crackle under the music but it is so brief and I only noticed it because I was "really" listening to it for the listing. It sounds like ambient vinyl noise but incredibly brief and certainly not overt. In the silence between Drive-In Saturday and Panic in Detroit there is a single click. On side 2, there is a horizontal inaudible factory scuffy mark on track 2, which is only noticeable held up to the light but is only an aesthetic blemish. The sound quality is superb throughout.
Opportunity for a bargain and I just hope this goes to a good Bowie-loving home. It is a perfect playing copy-not mint but actually is exactly as it was from new. It is a lovely pressing and has been well looked after. UK bidders only unless using the GSP. Thanks!
