Description

An original 1st press of Hunky Dory on the UK RCA label from 1971. Matrix 3T/3T. Etchings 'Bobil, Rasputin'. Please note label design is consistent with very 1st pressing - shiny and with Titanic publishing credits [no Mainman]. Also worth bearing in mind that in 1971 Bowie was yet to be a fully fledged star, he'd have to wait until Summer 1972 for Ziggy to propel him to the top of the charts. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original non-laminated Robert Stace cover without Mainman logo. Also included is the original lyric sheet and the inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In absolutely superb condition and has seen only light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks in a couple of spots, but by and large this is a very clean well preserved copy. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. The audio on these 1st presses is absolutely stunning..there really is no better way to hear this Bowie classic than on one of these copies. Interference is minimal and infrequent. All we could detect was a touch of static in a couple of tracks. And then one mark at the end of 'Andy Warhol' - the isolated vocal bit where Bowie explains it's 'Warhol.. as in Hole' - causes a few clicks, but this does not extend into any actual music. A very very fine rendition and you are only left to wonder why this slab of vinyl wasn't sufficient to propel him to stardom right there and then in 1971.
Cover (Vg+) Often turns up looking a bit worse for wear over the years. This copy is in very fine form with a very nice and clean front exhibiting only light handling wear. The rear is in equally good form with hardly any ageing. There's a bit of edge wear, but nothing excessive. The text on the spine is still mostly legible. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity and remains a very fine example of this, now, hard to find original cover.
Lyric Sheet (Ex) Great shape with barely any ageing. No issues at all.
Inner (Vg) Bit of ageing, but no splits.
