Description

An original 1st press of 'Hunky Dory' on the UK RCA label from 1971. Matrix 3T/3T - very 1st cut. The genuine 1st press of this title as identified by the etchings...."Bobil + Rasputin". Bear in mind that when this Lp was released at Xmas in 1971 Bowie was still relatively unknown. He'd have to wait till the following year and the advent of STARDUST for the big time. Consequently these early pressings, that pre-date the big-time for Bowie, are much harder to find. The record is a lovely heavy RCA pressing with the original Titanic publishing credits. Now, please also bear in mind that very early variations of this Lp can be found with a laminated cover. This particular example comes housed in a non-laminated cover which was also available at 1st release. We have the original generic white inner sleeve and the original orange-brown lyrics sheet. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In beautiful condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks either side - but nothing troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slight deviation. The audio delivered from this early copy is to die for....deep lush and with bags of transparency. Intros and inbetweens are pretty much silent and the audio comes across with superb clarity. A nigh on perfect rendition...even the tricky tracks like "Eight Line Poem" & "Bewley Brothers" play clean which is not often the case. Interference is very very limited indeed. Expect a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. And then the one deviation is two brief and minor clicks in the talking section of "Andy  Warhol". Overall, and in summary, a beautiful playing copy and one, I think, it would be very hard to even match. 
Cover (Ex-) Very difficult to find in top condition due to the way it was manufactured. But this example is preserved to a very high level. The front is very clean and unaged and does not exhibit the usual heavy surface wear that is often found - just  couple of minor creases. The rear is just as good looking - absolutely no signs of foxing or wear..very very nice indeed. Edge wear is light for this title and the openings are still sharp. There's very little wear at all on the spine and the text is all still legible. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity. A really super looking specimen.
Lyric Sheet (Ex) No issues at all really. Very nice.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. One side split has been taped up.
