Space Oddity: Mint 1972 RCA Victor UK first pressing 9 track LP of the first truly essential David Bowie album, featuring the title track and Bowie’s first true masterpiece Cygnet Committee. With 2E/2E stampers and immaculate picture sleeve complete with original inner and large folded poster. Both the sleeve and disc are in beautiful condition, as is the poster.
The disc has First Press matrix numbers in the run-out grooves and is in MINT condition. Hard enough to find in reasonable condition, this copy is in MINT CONDITION and the picture sleeve and poster are also in MINT CONDITION. And as these UK 1st pressings come up so infrequently in this condition this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to add this extreme rarity to your collection at an extremely advantageous price.

This is the very rare real thing: a GENUINE first RCA UK issue in MINT CONDITION. The sleeve and poster are also in MINT CONDITION, with no creases, scratches, tears, writing, stickers, dog-ears or other damage. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1972. The LP is the original first RCA issue stereo LP, which was only played on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

Space Oddity is an album released by RCA in 1972 that had previously been released by Philips in the UK in 1969 as David Bowie and by Mercury in the US the same year as Man of Words/Man of Music. Regarding its mix of folk, balladry and progressive rock, NME editors Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray have said, "Some of it belonged in '67 and some of it in '72, but in 1969 it all seemed vastly incongruous. Basically, David Bowie/Space Oddity can be viewed in retrospect as all that Bowie had been and a little of what he would become, all jumbled up and fighting for control..."
This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this piece of rock history in MINT condition, which is considered one of the landmark albums in the history of David Bowie.
Held to be "the first Bowie album proper", and his first deemed worthy by record companies of regular reissue, Space Oddity featured a notable list of collaborators, including session players Herbie Flowers, Tim Renwick, Terry Cox, and Rick Wakeman, as well as cellist Paul Buckmaster, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tony Visconti, and bassist John Lodge (not to be confused with The Moody Blues' bassist of the same name). Before recording for the album commenced at Trident Studios, the song "Space Oddity" had been selected as the lead single based on an earlier demo. Tim Renwick, John 'Honk' Lodge, Mick Wayne and John Cambridge – all from the band 'Junior's Eyes' – featured on the album sessions and briefly served as Bowie's backing band for live appearances and on an October 1969 BBC Radio session. Tony Visconti saw it as a "novelty record" and passed the production responsibility on to Gus Dudgeon. Visconti thus produced all the songs on the album bar what would become, from its 1972 issue onwards, the title track.
Although the opening song had given Bowie a No.5 hit in the UK earlier in the year, the remainder of the material bore little resemblance to it and the album was a commercial failure on its initial release, despite some decent reviews. However the November 1972 issue, released in the wake of Bowie's breakthrough The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and featuring a contemporary Ziggy photo on the cover, made No.17 in the UK charts and No.16 in the United States.
