David Bowie The Man Who Sold The World Dress Cover

Hi, this is the second of this particular album i am selling, you are looking at one of the most sought after Bowie records of all time. There have been a couple of counterfeits appearing recently, but, i can guarantee that this record is the original as shown in the pictures.

This is the Mercury 1971 initial release, Tony Visconti's name is shown on the label as Tony Visconti, this raises the often asked question, is it a fake, the answer is a resounding no, this particular album is the original first pressing with the re released label, the letter P is circled on the label beside the date, 1971, the numbers stamped on the record are 6338 041, the front cover shows the correct amount of the clock on the table and Bowie's foot is approx 1cm from the right hand edge. On the rear of the cover Derek Woodmansey's name is spelt Woodmansley, all these are well known to prove the authenticity of the entire album.

Grading:-

The cover is in very good condition considering it's age, there is some scuffing to the top edge of the cover, the spine writing is legible, there is a very slight crush in the middle of the spine, there is a very faint record outline on the front cover but mainly visible in strong sunlight. There is a very small biro mark above Bowie's head on the front cover, the lower cover seam has split and there is a 1 cm tear to the rear cover shown in the picture.

What the cover may lack to some, the record itself more than makes up for it, it has a few hairlines mainly visible in sunlight, the labels are a strong colour of black, the record has maintained it's dark sheen, the label has a few spindle marks indicating the record has been played and quite rightly so, this record is brilliant, every true Bowie fan relishes listening to all the tracks. I played the record all the way through to grade it for this auction, simply superb, i will state that on lowering the needle onto the record there is some crackling on both sides, but, as soon as the music starts there are no audible pops, cracks, skips or jumps. I have no hesitation in grading the record as Excellent Plus, the fact the record has been played and enjoyed i will not grade any higher. The record has some dust on it, this in no way hinders the record to play and i would prefer the new owner to clean it if required.

The inner sleeve i can only presume is authentic, though it's a very dark grey in colour, it shows signs of age, is crumpled and has a couple of tears, you have to remember that this record is in it's 36th year.

Overall, given the nature of the textured sleeve and the quality of the entire record it is in very good condirion, i have listed this in the manner in which i would expect any questions, however, if anyone needs further pictures or clarification on any of the points i've listed then do not hesitate to contact me.
